Charlotte is officially 6 months old!
Official Stats: Weight 13 lbs 8 oz Length 24 inches
(still 10th percentile, but tracking steady)
We had a very active month with visits, road trips, and milestones!
First Official Sleepover!
Charlotte had her very first official sleepover. Andrew and I celebrated our 3rd Anniversary recently and Charlotte stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Miller for one night. She couldn’t have been better! She was cheerful and playful, followed her normal routine exactly, and didn’t throw any curve balls! Our master plan worked and we have successfully lulled them into a false sense of security! Wah-haa-haa. Just kidding, but she was really great and it shows us just how easy-going a baby she really is – different crib as well as different sounds and smells all night.
First Road Trip to NY!
We made our first 4 hour journey to Staten Island recently. We had been hesitant to make such a long drive given how much Charlotte HATES her car seat, but she was a champ. We left around 10:30pm on a Friday so that she slept virtually the entire way. It was a bit rough on me and Andrew as we knocked out the last 30 miles on the New Jersey Turnpike, but it was worth it given that we had NO traffic and Charlotte and Austin slept almost the whole time.
While up in NY, we visited our friends Aryn and Joe and their 7 month old son Kieran. It’s amazing that they’re only about 6 weeks apart, but Charlotte was a peanut when she was born and Kieran was…not (10lbs 11oz!)
Charlotte was particularly fond of Kieran’s crunchy frog head toy. Kieran can sit up really well and we’re hoping Charlotte took some careful notes. Aryn made Charlotte possibly the cutest knit hat I’ve ever seen!
Finally just before we headed back down to VA, Andrew’s Aunt Marilyn and Cousin Emmy swung by for a quick visit so they could see how much Charlotte had grown since the last time they saw her about 2 months ago.
Milestones
Sippy cup
Recently Charlotte’s teachers suggested we bring in some rice cereal and a sippy cup for her to try. Charlotte has been watching the slightly older babies carefully and has shown interest in trying some of their cool tricks. The cereal is going down well and she’s actually quite the sippy cup fan – possibly more because it has handles and the top is soft so she can nom it, but she’s managed to actually drink from it a bit.
Sitting unassisted
She can now stay sitting up when you place her in that position, can’t go from laying down to sitting up on her own yet, but I’m sure it’s not far off. I guess she really did pay attention to her new buddy Kieran!
She’s also rolling over a lot at daycare, but still has YET to rollover for us. I think she’s doing it on purpose.
First new solid food
Since Charlotte has been doing better with her rice cereal and sippy cup, we thought it might be time to introduce her first new solid food. Given the time of year, we decided to set aside a little of the pureed pumpkin from some cookies I was making and mixed it with some breastmilk to thin it down. Result…
She liked it! Much better response than we got for the rice cereal. I’m going to make up a little more over the Thanksgiving holiday so she can have it for a couple days, then we’ll move on to another food…
We can’t believe it’s been 6 months and at the same time, it’s amazing to see how much she’s developed in such a short time! She’s become quite the chatter box, she is extremely interested in Austin, grabs objects very well and uses her hands in good coordination, has become fascinated by textures, and is really close to turning over back to front.
We got a 6 month foot print that we’ll upload along with her birth and 2 month print so everyone can see how much she’s really grown! It’s amazing!
We cannot wait to see what month 7 brings!!!
