I started writing this entry just a few days after Charlotte crossed the four month milestone (around 9/25), but life became busier than usual and I’m just now having time to finish up all the news, and there’s been quite a bit happening to share!
As you may have guessed from the picture above, Charlotte has been introduced to rice cereal. This picture, however, is very misleading. She found the pink bowl fascinating, the actual contents however, were not such a hit. In fact, we’ve yet to get any to stay in her mouth, which appears to make her quite upset and sets off a mini-meltdown. We’re keeping up the good fight and try to offer her a little whenever she’s in a good mood. We know that one day the cereal will go in and stay in.
Official 4 month Picture!
Official stats at 4 month check up: Weight: 11 lbs 7 oz Height: 23 inches
10th percentile all around
She loves her jumperoo and exersaucer. Up until about a week ago she had to stand on a cookbook because she was too short, even for the lowest height. Just this week she’s able to put both feet on the ground. Either she’s getting taller or heavier and weighing it down – mostly likely a little of both.
We went to the Dulles Plane Pull a few weekends ago. It was hot, so we didn’t get to stay long, but Charlotte was very interested in everything.
Milestones:
10/4/10: Charlotte held her own bottle for a little bit. She managed to open both hands at the same time (that’s been the challenge) and grasp the bottle. Then, in her attempt to readjust, she spun the bottle and dumped it on her lap. We managed to catch it in a photo two days later. She’s getting better although occasionally her fingers get between her mouth and the bottle which is frustrating for her – although a little funny for us to see her try to latch on between her tiny fingers.
10/6/10: ROLLED OVER! Charlotte’s little daily report from daycare says she rolled over by herself for the firt time! We’re sorry we missed it, but we’re hoping for a redo on a weekend morning (she’s more chipper and willing in the mornings). Maybe we’ll even get a little video!
10/10/10: We tried rice cereal for the first time today. We knew it was going to be messy, and it surely was. She’s more interested in the physical bowl and spoon rather than what they’re facilitating, but we’ll get there soon…hopefully.
Charlotte is still not sleeping through the night. I get up about twice a night. Sometimes more, but those are very rare nowadays. One night recently she slept for 5 hours, nursed, and then slept for another 5 hours. At first I was overjoyed, but then realized she was running a low-grade fever, which probably contributed to her long snoozes.
Charlotte gets stronger every day. When you hold her in the cradle position, you can feel her tensing her tummy muscles trying to sit up. She usually manages to raise her feet more than her torso, but she’s working hard and making great progress. She’s also strong enough to stand on her own with a tiny bit of balance help. She’s not pulling herself up yet (is it selfish of me to be glad she’s not quite there yet?) but I suspect that once she is able to sit up, it will be literally DAYS until she stands up. She has so much drive to get up and go. It’s amazing.
Charlotte and Austin have also begun to interact more. Austin isn’t really doing anything different – he still wants to lick her face and hands constantly and it’s an epic struggle to stay ahead of him. Charlotte on the other hand has begun to watch Austin as he plays with his toys, follows his movement as he races up and down the hallway chasing the laser pointer (his favorite “toy”), and reaches out to him when he approaches her. I’m sure it won’t belong before she’s pulling his ears, tugging his tail, and trying to squeeze his toys into her mouth.
I know a lot of you may say “eww” to that, but any dog lovers out there know it comes with the territory, and I’m sure her immune system will be all the better because of it (not that we are going to encourage it of course, but babies and dogs are at about the same level when considering what to put in their mouths – anything that fits and can go in faster than an adult can move to stop it).
Every day is more exciting and she is constantly amazing us – and she’s so freaking cute!
