Little Charlotte will be two weeks old on Saturday and we’re slowly finding our rhythm. She’s a very good baby, nurses well, sleeps soundly, and doesn’t get upset over almost anything (dog barking, thunder, dropping a plate on the kitchen floor, etc). We really have nothing to complain about, she’s awesome and we love her to pieces!
However, she’s developed a habit that has her mommy, daddy, and doggie all exhausted by morning – the midnight zoom-zooms.
Starting somewhere between midnight and 1am, Charlotte wakes up and is so TOTALLY awake that she’s positively hyper. Her eyes are wide open, her little arms and legs are moving around, and she doesn’t want to be left in her bassinet. She wants to be with us, looking all over the place, watching the ceiling fan, chirping happily while her mom and dad plead with her to become sleepy and her doggie constantly shifts in his crate trying to find a quiet corner (I seriously think I’ve seen him with his paws over his ears). This goes on for about an hour and a half. Then she finally passes out and we all collapse.
“Zoom-zooms” was a term coined by my sister’s puppy obedience instructor. It refers to that random spurt of energy puppies get where they suddenly bounce around like they’re on speed and then promptly pass out. Well, we thought it was a good description of Charlotte’s little bursts too.
